As the officer talked with the driver by his police cruiser, a single gunshot was heard in the SUV, JSO said. The officer drew his firearm and all occupants exited the vehicle and screamed that a passenger in the SUV's luggage compartment shot himself.

The 17-year-old was sitting in the very back of the SUV when he accidentally shot himself. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The infant had a fever and was taken to the hospital, along with its mother.

One person in the vehicle was arrested on a pending warrant for burglary. Marijuana was found in the vehicle and more charges are pending, JSO said.
