Nassau firefighter, wanted for DUI manslaughter in death of wife, found dead

UPDATE: The Nassau County Sheriff's Department said that Curtis Bollinger, 48, was found deceased Tuesday at approximately 12:30 p.m. by deputies at a cemetery located at Live Oak Baptist Church in Callahan.

Deputies said he was  found inside his vehicle with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Bollinger was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for DUI manslaughter issued by the Florida Highway Patrol in reference to a motorcycle crash that killed his wife Shannon in Nassau County on April 15, 2018, authorities said.

ORIGINAL STORY: A retired Nassau County firefighter is wanted on a charge of DUI manslaughter in the death of his wife.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Curtis Bollinger was under the influence the night he crashed on S.R. 200 with his wife, Shannon, on the back of his motorcycle.

Troopers said Mrs. Bollinger died at the scene. Neither she nor her husband were wearing a helmet.

Mrs. Bollinger was a mother of five children. Mr. Bollinger was not the biological father.

The crash happened around 1:10 a.m. on April 15.

Troopers said Mr. Bollinger had a blood alcohol level of .2 percent, which is two-and-a-half times the legal limit.

The crash report said Mr. Bollinger was traveling 19 mph when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the concrete median.

An arrest warrant for Bollinger was issued last Tuesday.

Mr. Bollinger was a lieutenant with the Nassau County Fire Rescue. The fire department said he retired last Wednesday, a day after the arrest warrant was issued.
