Sheriff: Car hit by Amtrak train in Nassau County

The Nassau County Sheriff confirmed with Action News Jax that a vehicle collided with a train in Callahan after it tried to get around the barriers Saturday evening.

The crash occurred at the crossing near Rivers Road and Brandies Avenue.

According to the sheriff, one person was entrapped and another was sent to UF Health.

The Florida Highway Patrol is also working the scene.

Nassau County Fire Rescue is also on scene and confirmed the crash as vehicle versus train.

Amtrak sent Action News Jax the following statement:

Train 98 struck a vehicle that was on the tracks north of Jacksonville at approximately 8 pm. There were no reported injuries to the passengers or crew.  Local authorities are on the scene.
