JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A couple living in the Murray Hill neighborhood said a ‘porch pirate’ is to blame for their missing package.
Video footage shows from Sean Vandenberg’s doorbell camera a woman walking up to his home and snatching a package containing new shoes. Moments later, she gets in a car and drives away.

“She’s just so calm and collected about it,” Vandenberg said. “She didn’t hesitate once.”

Vandenberg filed a police report with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and handed over his video. He told police other neighbors experienced similar situations, according to the arrest report.
“Multiple people have seen the same lady,” Vandenberg said. “They’ve had multiple thefts from her as well, on camera.”
A 2022 survey found $19.5 billion lost to package thefts each year, according to SafeWise. The statistics show the threat for a ‘porch pirate’ to strike is increasing annually.
“The package can be replaced and everything. That’s not the point,” Vandenberg said. “It’s just like she continuously does it in the area, and she just feels so comfortable being able to do that too.”
