Raymond Brewster reached out to Action News Jax for help because he didn't feel safe sending his 7-year-old daughter to the school bus stop.

The sidewalk suddenly stops, and kids are either forced to cross the road where's there's no crosswalk to get to the sidewalk or walk in the drainage ditch right along the busy road.

Brewster filed a complaint with the City of Jacksonville and asked for a sidewalk to be installed. The City denied the request and said the area "does not meet the criteria for a [sic] new sidewalk at this time per the Pedestrian Safety Improvement plan."

Action News Jax took Brewster's concerns to the city again. Two weeks later, a sidewalk was installed.

"If I wouldn't have reached out to you all, nothing would've changed," Brewster said.

Brewster said crews laid down the concrete this week.

"I feel like kids will be safe," Brewster said. "Any pedestrian will be safe now."

Brewster said he's disappointed he had to go to those lengths, but he's grateful the city took action.

"I had to do what I had to do to make sure that my kids and other kids are safe getting to and from the bus stop," Brewster said.
