Slain Jacksonville woman's son booked in Duval County jail on murder charge

STORY: Woman found lying in puddle of blood, Jacksonville police say

The son of a Jacksonville woman found dead in a pool of blood last week has been arrested on a murder charge, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office confirmed Thursday.

Marcus Heath, 26, was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Thursday morning.

Heath was extradited Wednesday from the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Delaware after he was arrested for allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase in a stolen car.

Lt. Craig Waldrup said the stolen car was a 2006 Mercedes Benz that belonged to his mom, 56-year-old Voncile Heath.

Heath has refused to talk with investigators following his arrest. JSO said they were unsure why Heath ended up in Delaware, 800 miles from Jacksonville.

His arrest in Delaware came the same day his mother, Voncile Heath, was found dead inside her Westside home on Mossbrook Court near Chaffee Road.

Voncile Heath was stabbed, JSO said in a news conference on Thursday afternoon.

Waldrup said the motive for the killing remains unclear.

Heath will face a judge Friday at 9 a.m.

Voncile Heath’s funeral is also being held Friday at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church on Helena Street.
