U.S. residents on social security will not have to file a tax return to get their stimulus payments, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service announced Wednesday.
Officials said the money will be automatically deposited into their bank accounts and they do not need to file a tax return.

“Social Security recipients who are not typically required to file a tax return do not to need take an action, and will receive their payment directly to their bank account,” said Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin.
The announcement reverses a previous statement made by the IRS requiring people, who, under normal circumstances, would not have to file their taxes, to submit a simple tax return to ensure eligibility.
The move came after 41 senators wrote a letter to the Trump administration, urging it to reconsider.
