A father and well-known youth baseball coach was killed while cleaning debris left behind by a tornado in Yulee.

Family said Christopher "Adam" Nichols, 33, had two sons and his wife is pregnant with twins.

The local business owner was killed in a tree-trimming accident at a home on Scarlet Oaks Court on Saturday.

Nichols was working with two of his employees when a large pine tree began to fall toward him.

Witnesses said Nichols tried to push the tree and slipped. He fell and the tree fell on him.

They performed CPR and tried to help Nichols, but he died from his injuries.

The family is gathering donations to support Nichols' wife, who is 13 weeks pregnant.

His sister-in-law Amber Burns wrote on a You Caring page:

He had a way to drive us all crazy at times and make us laugh and love him in the same moment.  We remember him as the fun brother-in-law who made every one of our family trips and gatherings a little more memorable and adventurous."

Burns said Nichols' death leaves a hole in the Yulee and Fernandina Beach communities.

She said he loved coaching the Yulee Rays youth baseball team.

Several community members and businesses posted about his death on Facebook.
