ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A local man is recovering after he was shot, and the search is on for the shooter.

It happened shortly after 2 a.m. near the intersection of Flagler Boulevard and Gerado Street, just east of the Bridge of Lions.

St. Augustine police officers said they received a call early Sunday morning about someone being shot. But when they arrived, the victim and shooter were nowhere to be found.

Minutes later, officers received a call about a man at Flagler Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.  Police said they are talking to him trying to get more information.

Police arrived at the scene minutes after receiving a call but both the victim and suspect were already gone.

Witnesses initially gave conflicting reports of what happened but were able to give police a description of the suspect.

Harin Patel, owner of the Budget Inn Motel says he didn’t hear gunfire. “I came out to help a guest go into a room, from there I seen the police lights, that’s when I went to ask police what was going on,” says Harin Patel.

Neither did Cullen Rose. “I’m dumbfounded that anything like this could happen in this neighborhood,” he said.

The college student described his neighborhood as anything but violent. “I Enjoy taking my dog for walks in the morning, the birds are chirping, there’s other people walking the dog, everyone is smiling, everyone is friendly,” Rose said.

A neighbor across the street told Action News Jax that he heard two shots fired. In the meantime, police told ANJ that they are looking for a maroon SUV a man took off in.

"Hopefully they catch that shooter," Rose said.
