St. Augustine teen accused of fatally shooting girlfriend in the face, says she threatened to throw hot grease on him

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Anyone who needs help and can safely get away from their abuser is asked to call the Florida Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-500-1119 or Hubbard House in Jacksonville at (904) 354-3114.

A teen is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in the face during an argument on Thursday night, deputies say.

Da’Shaud Williams, 17, of St. Augustine, was arrested on a charge of negligent manslaughter, according to an arrest report from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, a 23-year-old woman from St. Augustine, “was threatening to throw hot grease” on Williams, according to the report. Williams “pushed her back and shot her in the face,” the report continued.

Williams and the woman had been in a “romantic relationship” for 6 months, deputies said.

Williams went to the victim’s house to visit and eat dinner. On his way to her house, Williams unearthed a handgun that he had “buried in the ground earlier in the week,” according to the report.

The two got into an argument when Williams told the victim he was going to go out with a friend later that night.

The woman and Williams were arguing from two different adjacent rooms in the house -- she was in a bathroom and he was in a bedroom.

Williams left the bedroom and went into the hallway, where he was standing in front of the victim, who was in the doorway of the bathroom.

Williams told deputies that the woman “was trying to push past him” and that was when she threatened to pour hot grease on him.

At that point, he pushed her and shot her in the face, according to the report.

Williams ran away and deputies later found him on South Woodlawn Street threatening to kill himself.
