St. Johns County, Fla. — A homeowner in World Golf Village in St. Johns County tells Action News Jax two windows in the back of his home were shattered by a BB gun recently.
The homeowner, David Decker, tells Action News Jax Reporter Ryan Nelson, he heard a loud pop when a BB hit a downstairs window of his Silver Glen Avenue home on Saturday.
He tells us he never anticipated something like this happening in his neighborhood.
“It’s a really good community that we have around here, and everyone is so fantastic,” said Decker.
Decker says it wasn’t until Monday that he noticed about seven BB holes in the bedroom window upstairs, after the window repairman pointed out the damage on the second floor.
“He was like, ‘Look, it wasn’t a one-off shot, somebody intentionally shot your windows out,’” said Decker.
It was at this point Decker tells us he alerted the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
In the report obtained by Action News Jax, a neighbor told deputies they saw two kids and a teen in the area around the time of the incident but didn’t see any of them holding BB guns.
“She observed two children walking in the area but didn’t see any weapon or BB gun type instrument in their possession,” the deputy stated in the report. “A little while later she also observed a teenage male wearing head phones out walking but she stated he had no visible BB gun in his possession.”
While no suspects have been identified at this time, Decker is urging parents to supervise their kids or teens when they use BB gun.
“I understand that they’re fun to play with and everything like that, but at the end of the day they are still a weapon, they still will cause damage,” said Decker. “And when people leave their children unattended with these things, it’s people like me that have to pay the bill for it, and that’s really unfair.”
SJSO Spokesperson Chuck Mulligan tells Nelson this is the only known report of a BB gun shooting in the neighborhood as of Tuesday night.
