St. Johns County women targeted in smash-and-grabs outside local gym

Deputies responded to Orangetheory Fitness in the St. Johns area in regards to burglaries to multiple vehicles in the shopping center Dec. 3, according to a St. Johns County Sheriff's Office offense report. St. Johns County deputies say its all apart of a gang tactic.

Three women told authorities their cars were broken into early Monday morning in the gym's parking lot located at 2851 County Road 210, while they were attending a workout class.

A victim told Action News Jax reporter Brittney Donovan that she is worried that the thief knew the gym's fitness schedule and knew when to target her.

The report stated that car windows were shattered and belongings, such as purses, credit cards and a cell phone were taken, authorities said.

The items stolen valued up to $5,700, according to the police report.

Surveillance cameras are in the area, but the cars were not parked in the camera's frame.
