State Attorney: Grand jury indicts Chad Absher for first-degree murder

The state attorney's office released Thursday that a grand jury has indicted Chad Absher for first-degree murder. This means the death penalty is still on the table.

Court records show Chad Absher’s trial started in January.

Police said he murdered his ex-girlfriend, Ashlee Rucker, while her sister, Lisa Rucker survived being shot in the head.

Officers said the shooting happened last Halloween at the Cedar Creek Landing condos in Hyde Park.

According to Chad Absher's arrest warrant, he and Ashlee Rucker were arguing over car keys before the double shooting.

The warrant says the argument escalated into him choking her.

It states a witness heard two gunshots a few seconds apart, saw Chad Absher with a rifle or shotgun and found both victims with gunshot wounds to the head.

William Absher told Action News Jax that he believes his son is innocent.

“There’s two families that have been tore apart is about all I can say,” he said.
