Surveillance video shows dogs killing Orange Park family's cat on their porch

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Surveillance video captured two dogs attacking and killing an Clay County family’s cat on the family's porch.

The attack happened at a home on Gano Drive in Orange Park.

“What if my son was on the porch playing with my cat?” Bethany French said.

French said she came home Thursday and found her cat, Thomas O’Malley, dead.

“It was horrible,” French said.  “It was really bad. I didn't know what to do. I just knew that that chapter of my life was over and there was nothing I can do.”

French said she reluctantly checked the surveillance video to see what happened.

“The dogs just came on my porch and then within two seconds, starting fighting my cat, drug him out to the front and fought him for two minutes until there was no life left in him,” French said.

Animal Control believes the same two dogs injured another person’s cat, and killed a neighborhood stray.

Action News Jax has not been able to reach the suspected owner of the dogs.

“I just feel like the owners need to be held responsible in some sort of way,” French said.

Animal Control officials said the dogs will be impounded once they're found and they'll be held for a dangerous dog investigation.

They said it’s the law in Clay County that dogs left alone have to be on a leash or behind a fence.
