Chris Boivin, the Assistant Director of Community Relations and Marketing at Jacksonville Public Library, released the following statement to Action News Jax:

"We would like to thank the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for their quick response this morning in detonating a suspicious package at Willowbranch Branch Library. The package contained a special audio book player for the visually impaired. We appreciate everyone's concern and patience."

The Willowbranch Branch Library was supposed to host a Storybook Pride Prom event on Friday for LGBT youth, but the library announced Monday that the event was canceled.

The library explained that "after careful and extensive deliberation" it chose to cancel the Friday event because a situation was created by people who wished to use the event for their own purposes. It added that, "It is unfortunate that this event became associated with political statement and shows of activism, as those are not part of the library's mission in any way."

JASMYN said it is now supporting a Pop-Up Storybook Pride Prom on Friday in response to the cancellation of the event.
