Teacher, friends remember teen killed at Westside party

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Christina Hovestadt keeps many letters from her old students, but one letter stands out.

That letter was from former Atlantic Coast High School student Jonah Golden.

"Every time that he came in, I'd say 'Jonah' and he'd say 'Ms. H' and laugh and give me that big bright smile, and I remember that smile like it was yesterday," Hovestadt said.

His former teachers said he was the victim in Saturday morning's shooting at a Westside house party.

There were 40 or 50 people at the party on Liska Drive, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Another teen, an 18-year-old, was also injured after a bullet grazed him.

Golden's former teachers said while he had challenges in his life, they remember him as a determined young man.

"One of the last things I told him was that I know I can see you on the news for good things, not negative things," said Hovestadt. "I want to see that, and then I saw the news this morning.”

No arrests have been made and so far police are unsure about a motive.
