Teens with stolen car, guns crash into students prompting school lockdown

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is searching for a group of teens who crashed into students outside a school, and then jumped out of their vehicle, carrying guns.

The initial search for the teens put two schools on lockdown.

Raven Hall and Jazmine Thompson were leaving school Wednesday afternoon, trying to back out of the parking spot.

“The next thing I know, my car goes flying forward,” Hall said.

They got out of the car to see who hit them and they said they saw several teens jump out of a white SUV that police said was stolen.

“Two come back and grab guns and then they flee again,” Hall said.

The teens' vehicle was still in drive.

“They were speeding and just hit us. They didn’t even stop the car, just let it keep rolling,” Hall said.

Because of this incident, Westside High School and Jacksonville Heights Elementary School were both put on lockdown for about an hour.

“It was kind of nerve-wracking, especially when I saw the guns. I didn’t know if they were going to pull them on me or if they were just going to run with them,” Hall said.

Action News Jax was at the scene as the vehicle’s owner came to get her SUV.

She said it had been stolen from Riverside and that this was the second time in the past couple of months that the SUV had been taken from her home.

An officer found a gun magazine in the vehicle, as well as several bullet holes in and around the SUV.

Thompson said she’s glad she and Hall are OK, but is still in shock over what happened.

“You never expect this to happen. You’re leaving school just to go home you don’t expect to get hit by a car and injured or people to flee the scene, and with guns too,” Thompson said.
