A church in Jacksonville is not off to the best start this new year, after being raided by thieves.

Pastor Patricia Guess says she opened the new year with service at her church, Power of Connections Ministries on Norwood Avenue.

But hours later, police were there.

“We got called about 9:30 that someone had come into the church and taken all of the sound equipment,” said Guess.

That includes two sub roof speakers, a mixer board and PA system, along with a keyboard. It all cost thousands of dollars.

Guess showed us where thieves removed the ceiling panels, and disconnected the wiring. There was debris all over the church’s floor.

“It took them a sufficient amount of time and there was definitely more than one partner,” said Guess.

Guess and her husband are asking for the community’s help.

Power of Connections distributes food and supplies to needy children and the homeless through events all year.

“Poverty, children that are involved in teenage gangs,” she said, “all those things that we serve to try and bring them out of that environment has now been taken away.”
