• Transformer fire causes Baptist South hospital to lose primary power

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A transformer fire in the 14200 block of Old St. Augustine Road has caused Baptist Medical Center South to lose primary power early Tuesday evening.

Patient machines were being run by a backup generator during the outage, according to Cindy Hamilton, Baptist's Director of Public Relations.

Several lights down Philips Highway were out, including Southside Boulevard, Greenland Road, Old St. Augustine Road and Interstate 95, but are now restored, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JEA spokesperson Gerri Boyce said more than 6,000 customers were without power for about two hours, with most customers, including the hospital, getting service restored by 6:15 p.m.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was tasked with putting out the transformer fire, Boyce said.
