Two in custody following shooting involving Jacksonville rapper at Waycross Hampton Inn

A 30-year-old Jacksonville man is dead following a deadly foot chase at a Waycross hotel.

Police say a group of people were being chased down in the parking lot of a Hampton Inn on Brunswick Highway.

One of those people was local Jacksonville rapper Yungeen Ace.

Ace is the sole survivor of a quadruple-shooting that happened in June 2018.

"I thought somebody was pounding on the door, but everybody else said no—that was gunfire," said a witness who asked to be identified only as Ken.

The gunfire Ken heard was from the shooting that happened at the Hampton Inn on Brunswick Highway.

"It had everybody up and concerned,” Ken said.

Ken stayed at a hotel right across from the Hampton Inn.

Waycross police say they got a report of people being chased in the parking lot by people with guns around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

"All the rest of them [my friends] heard anywhere from 9-15 shots...they were sure...they were sure there were...guns going off,” said Ken.

According to attorney David Haas, his client Yungeen Ace was a part of that group. Haas says they were ambushed.

While Ace, formally known as Keyanta Bullard, was not harmed, olice found 30-year-old Jeremy Brookins of Jacksonville with gunshot wounds near the pool.

He died at the scene.

Police found a second victim, 29-year-old Dewayne Lamont Scott, in a room inside the hotel, injured by gunfire. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

Action News Jax counted 12 bullet hole markers in the parking lot, near the pool left behind by investigators.

Mark Jefferson, 26, Leroy Whittaker, 19, and Devante Starks, 26, were taken into custody on Sunday. Whittaker has been released.

There was also a fourth person, classified as a "juvenile" who was released with no charges.

Cole spoke to police Monday evening. They told her that don’t have any new information to release at this time.

They urge anyone with information about the suspects to call 912-287-4325.

Yungeen Ace was performing at a concert in Waycross, but his attorney will not comment on the relationship between the rapper and the people shot.
