UNF student to train like a cosmonaut in Russia

A different kind of space race is sending a University of North Florida student to train like a cosmonaut in Russia.

UNF junior Lee Giat won a nationwide contest that will send him to Europe for an out of this world experience.

Giat's goals of future degrees in astrophysics and multimedia production came together to help him make a submission video for Xploration Outerspace's Student Astronaut Contest.

After rising above 100s of other contestants, he’s now preparing for the training-only experience at Russia’s Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.

“It’s one of the last places astronauts and cosmonauts train before they go to space,” Giat said.

The location is known as “Star City.”
