Violent weekend leaves four dead in five Jacksonville shootings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Homicide investigators still have a lot of work ahead of them after a violent weekend in Jacksonville.

Two early morning shootings and another two that evening left four people dead including a juvenile on Saturday. A fifth shooting occurred in Brentwood Sunday night. The female victim is expected to be okay.

Westside resident Joseph Fuentes thought two boys parked in front of his house Saturday night with car troubles.

He quickly discovered it was something else.

“A short guy came out basically saying ‘man please help me. My homeboy got shot,’” Fuentes said.

The two got out of the car and begged Fuentes for help. After he got 911 on the phone, they ran off.

“They started running into a vehicle. I believe it was an SUV,” Fuentes said.

When JSO arrived, they found a dead boy in the back seat.

It turns out, this encounter was connected to another incident.

Two boys were shot along 103rd street Saturday night after an alleged argument.

One of them was found at that original scene but the other was found on Moret Drive-by Fuentes.

This is just one of four separate shootings that happened Saturday.

Five men were wounded in two early morning shootings. One in the parking lot along Soutel Drive on the northside and another at Whispers Crab House & Oyster Bar downtown.

Roanda Kee lives minutes from the strip mall on Soutel Drive.

She said she stays away from that lot because it’s not her crowd.

“I’m not sure if it’s something common but I’m quite sure a lot of crime is going on in the neighborhood. It’s just sad to see things like that happen in the community,” Kee said.”

Another man died after being shot while driving along the Arlington Expressway.

He was found in the Crafty Crab parking lot near the Regency Square Mall.

Back on the westside, Fuentes said the boys involved in the shooting looked like teenagers.

However, he stated they did not recognize them from the neighborhood.

JSO has not released any suspect information at this time.
