‘We believe there's going to be a recount': Duval supervisor of elections braces for recount

We’re rapidly approaching a statewide deadline for counties to report their unofficial elections results. Supervision of Elections Mike Hogan tells Action News his office is bracing for a recount.

“After that happens,” Hogan said, “we believe that within a couple of hours that we're going to be told there's going to be a recount.”

Hogan tells us the county’s unofficial results have been submitted to the state, with the exception of those trickling in from military overseas.

“We're getting our ballots together,” Hogan said  “We're separating them of course by type...”

A notice from the Duval Canvassing board posted at the supervisor of electrons office announced a recount could happen there as soon as 9 a.m. Sunday or anytime thereafter.

“I think it’s important for them to get it right,” said voter Gerald Young. “... and get it right, now!”

Friday afternoon people protested in Friendship Park, calling for every vote to be counted.

Friday night, neighbor Gerald Young was reacting to the political landscape for our state, and to news of a state judge siding with Rick Scott on Friday.

The judge ruled the Broward County supervisor of elections office violated the Florida’s Constitution and state public records act by not over turning certain records.

“Florida always seemed to be that outlying state,” Young said  “...that had some kind of controversy or whatever.”

Hogan says those records are more likely than not ballots.

As for the recount, it will be open to the public.
