Winn-Dixie helps vaccinate hundreds of JEA employees

Winn-Dixie is helping JEA employees get vaccinated all in an effort to continue to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

JEA and Winn-Dixie partnered together to get up to 200 employees vaccinated on Thursday.

Action News Jax Alicia Tarancon was at the JEA Pearl Street Service Center and spoke to JEA employees who told her they got the vaccine to protect their families and customers.

Kyle Schoettler has worked for JEA for 12 years. His department is usually the first one people call any time there’s a water-related emergency at home.

“Basically if you can’t turn your faucet on or flush your toilets, we’re going to be the first ones to respond,” he said.

Schoettler said his fellow JEA employees are always out interacting with customers.

“We meet them at their houses, we meet them at job sites, we meet them here at the service center,” Schoettler said.

That’s one of the reasons why he chose to sign up for the Covid-19 vaccine at their Pearl Street Service Center. Pharmacy staff with Winn-Dixie set red tents as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. They gave out the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines to the people that help keep our utilities running each day.

“Partnering with such a great company like JEA is allowing us access to be able to vaccinate a lot of their employees in order to be able to slow the progression of this disease,” Nicole Berry, a Pharmacy Manager with Winn-Dixie said.

Schoettler also has two little ones at home. They’re another reason he decided to sign up for the vaccine.

“A 5-year-old and a 3-year-old. and so I wanted to ensure that I’m doing everything that i can to prevent illness and to bring that to my house,” he said.

This vaccination event for JEA is only for Thursday.
