Woman arrested in multi-county crime spree after leading officers on high-speed chase

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said it arrested a woman wanted in a multi-county crime spree
Jennifer Lewis, 37, was taken into custody Tuesday after deputies said she led them on a high-speed chase.

Lewis was wanted for a home invasion robbery in Columbia County, a hit-and-run in Clay County and she was also a person of interest in an armed burglary in Putnam County, according to investigators.

The report said investigators conducted a traffic stop on Lewis’s vehicle at Silver Lake Drive and Fowler Street.

Deputies said she put the car into reverse and tried to hit a patrol car.

According to the report, the police chase lasted 11.5 miles down County Road 315.

The Sheriff’s Office said Lewis topped speeds of 90 mph and drove into oncoming traffic.

The pursuit came to an end in Marion County when deputies performed a PIT maneuver which caused the car to crash into a ditch and fence and turn over on its side.

Deputies said there were two men in the vehicle with Lewis. They were checked out by first responders, and one asked to be taken to the hospital.

The passengers were released.

Lewis refused to be evaluated, according to deputies.

Deputies said they found cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and Viagra pills during a search of Lewis’ vehicle.

She was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement, possession of a new legend drug without a prescription, assault on a law enforcement officer, marijuana possession, two counts of cocaine possession and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was additionally arrested on two out-of-county warrants.

Detectives are continuing to investigate other cases in which Lewis is a person of interest and said other charges could be coming.
