Woman killed by falling tree in Clay County

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. — Eula Manahan, 76, was killed after a tree fell on her in the yard of her home in Clay County.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Clay Fire Rescue came to her home in Keystone Heights around 11 a.m. on Monday.

The woman was sitting in a lawn chair in her yard when her brother, Al Norris, who is also in his 70s, cut the tree.

The tree fell in her direction and she was unable to move out of the way.

Norris cut a wedge in the tree to make it fall away from the house.  CCSO says wood rot inthe bottom of the tree made it fall prematurely.

Manahan died on the scene.

Children and other family members were in the yard, but were not injured.

Police stayed on the scene and a homicide detective has been assigned to investigate further.
