Woman shot in leg in Durkeeville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are investigating after a woman was shot in the leg Sunday evening in the Durkeeville area on 11th Street near Myrtle Avenue.

Some people in the area told Action News Jax they heard bouts of gunshots that paused before starting back up.

“Just, I heard some gunshots. We were standing here in the yard and that’s all I know,” a neighbor  who did not want to be identified said. “It was just a shooting. I heard, I think it was maybe four or five gunshots at first, and then it was a pause, and then some more shooting.”

L.T. J.M. Paris, with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said police got a call around 6:30 Sunday evening about the shooting.

Officers said this isn't the only shooting they're investigating in the area.

“There are multiple incidents in and around this one right now,” Paris said.

Police are unsure if any of those other shooting are related. However, officers said the woman who was shot was sent to the hospital, and she’s expected to be okay.

Nearby residents were sad to hear it happened but not surprised at all about the shooting.

“I’m kind of used to the gunshots sound,” one man said.
