Palatka mother battling terminal cancer accomplishes dying wish

PALATKA, Fla. — A Palatka mother of five is not letting terminal cancer stop her from continuing her education and setting an example for her children.

Allanious Fuqua, 32, has led a courageous battle with breast cancer, not once but twice.

She was first diagnosed in 2012 and went into remission. Unfortunately, the cancer returned and spread throughout her body.

“It’s getting aggressive. There’s nothing else they could do,” Fuqua said.

Fuqua is a patient with Community Hospice & Palliative Care, which provides care for terminally ill people.

Doctors gave her less than six months to live. She said they told her she wouldn’t make it to February.

“I’m here today,” Fuqua said with a big smile on her face.

She said her kids keep her fighting.

“If it weren’t for them I would’ve gave up a long time ago,” she said.

During her battle with cancer, Fuqua has been pursuing her GED.

Thursday, a cap and gown ceremony was held to celebrate her academic ambition and hard work to achieve this goal.

“I want my kids to look up and be like, 'OK momma, she graduated. She did that,'” Fuqua said.

She said she wants to leave behind a message about the power of perseverance and hope.

Until then, she’s cherishing each day she gets to spend with her children.
