Restaurant Report: Roaches, food temperatures and smoking near food found at local restaurants

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Roaches, food temperatures and smoking near food: That’s what Action News Jax found at local restaurants.

In this week’s Original Restaurant Report, Action News Jax anchor Ben Becker tells us more about the violations inspectors found.

Subs usually have a combination of meats, cheeses, vegetables and condiments. Inspectors found a combination of violations at a local Subway, where the home of the foot-long didn’t measure up.

Becker paid a visit to the Subway on Old Kings Road near Baymeadows Road. He showed the manager the most recent inspection, although she questioned the results.

According to state inspectors, the Subway had potentially hazardous food temperatures, equipment and utensils not properly air-dried and no proof of employee training.

“You are all good now?” Becker asked.

“We’re all good now,” the manager said.

Elsewhere, Rendezvous Wine and Food Bar on St. George Street near Hypolita Street was cited for seven dried rodent droppings, one dead roach and grease on a food contact surface. It was temporarily closed.

Inspectors say the Scoreboard Sports Bar & Grille on Merrill Road near Cesery Boulevard had potentially hazardous food temperatures, raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food and evidence of an employee smoking in a food prep area.

Domino’s Pizza on Baymeadows Road near Southside Boulevard was cited for potentially hazardous food temperatures, an employee eating in a food prep area and ceiling tiles in disrepair.

All the restaurants mentioned have passed follow-up inspections.
