'In God We Trust': Louisiana public schools required to display U.S. motto

This July 23, 2019 photo shows "In God We Trust" stenciled in a wall at South Park Elementary in Rapid City, S.D. Louisiana has a similar law as South Dakota that requires the display of the national motto.

As students go back to school, they will be greeted by the United States motto  "In God We Trust." If they're not, then the schools will be breaking Louisiana state law.

Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a bill last year that required all public schools in the Pelican State to have the U.S. motto displayed somewhere in the buildings by the 2019-20 school year, CNN reported.

School administrators can decide how to display the motto, but suggestions are spelled out in the bill. They must have at least a paper sign, CNN reported.

The sign display isn't the only change, as students will be taught about the motto and what it means, according to CNN.

Louisiana joins South Dakota as the latest state that has legislated the display of the motto.
