CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that he wants to abolish the Common Core education program through an executive order.
While Common Core was officially dropped by Florida and replaced by Florida Standards Testing, DeSantis said the state only rebranded the program.
He made the announcement at a South Florida high school in Cape Coral.
“This is going to be a process that is going to take the balance of this year and we will go to the Legislature next session and want to get that done,” DeSantis said during a press conference. “We don’t want to dillydally, but at the same time, do it right.”
DeSantis said concerns from parents from around the state were the main reason for this decision.
“I told you I was going to do something about this,” DeSantis said.
State officials are looking into what program can be used to replace Common Core.
