Cami Loritz is a nurse at the transplant intensive care unit at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.
She is also on the living organ donor list, WISN reported.
Earlier this year, she received a call about a little boy who had been healthy but came down with a virus and needed a liver transplant, WISN reported.
Doctors were not sure why the virus was attacking Brayden Auten's liver, but one day he was complaining about a stomachache and had diarrhea. The next day his eyes were yellow. Days later, doctors told his parents, Brayden needed a liver transplant, KARE reported.
Loritz and Brayden were a match and in May, the two underwent surgery, with Loritz giving Brayden a part of herself, the left side of her liver, so he can live, WISN reported.
The surgery was performed at the same hospital Loritz works at and was done by her co-workers, according to KARE.

Loritz said the remaining right side is working to compensate for what was removed and is growing to replace what was removed.
Now Loritz is much more than a nurse for the family. She is now part of it, meeting Brayden's parents about two weeks later, then meeting the little boy a few weeks after that.
They even share meals on occasion and posed for professional photos to illustrate their now permanent bond, KARE reported.
