MALIBU, Calif. — Four people were critically injured on Saturday after a residential balcony collapsed onto a Southern California beach, authorities said.
Fire officials said several other victims with minor injuries were treated at the scene, NBC News reported. It is unclear how far the people fell from the balcony onto the beach in Malibu, or why the structure collapsed, KCBS reported.
The collapse caused delays on the Pacific Coast Highway, the television station reported.
The structure fell at about 5:30 p.m. PDT, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said.
Everyone who fell off the balcony was evacuated off the beach, the Los Angeles Daily News reported. Four people were taken to trauma centers, and several others were undergoing evaluation and treatment for minor injuries at the scene, the newspaper reported.
It was also unclear if the homeowner was on-site or if guests were using the property, the Daily News reported.
