Wichita Police said the officers were searching the structure around 4 p.m. when an unknown device exploded, CNN reported.

The officers were taken to a hospital for treatment. One officer is in serious but stable condition. The other two had minor injuries. One of the officers has been released from the hospital, KWCH reported. None of their identities have been released.

The bomb squad and SWAT officers later arrived to search the scene. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also part of the investigation.

“We don’t know if this was a gun, if this was some type of improvised device,” Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay told KAKE. “That’s what we’re investigating right now.”
