4.2 magnitude earthquake shakes Los Angeles

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake in California’s San Fernando Valley shook the Los Angeles area Thursday morning, according to officials with the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake, reported in the Pacoima area around 4:30 a.m. local time, was initially reported as a 4.5 magnitude temblor, but was later downgraded. It was followed by a 3.3 magnitude aftershock around 4:40 a.m., officials said.

Pacoima resident Carlos Garcia told KNBC the quake woke him and his family from sleep.

"I just felt the jolt," he told the news station. "(I) got up, checked on the family. Everyone was OK."

Officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department said no damage or injuries were reported after the earthquake.
