Alabama man accused of setting ex-girlfriend’s car on fire

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — An Alabama man is accused of setting his ex-girlfriend’s car on fire, which caused two house fires, authorities said.

Calvin Burns, 40, of Huntsville, was charged with first-degree arson, first-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree burglary, WHNT reported.

Burns was released on $37,500 bail on Monday, according to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies and the East Limestone Fire Department responded to a fire on Aug. 3, WAAY reported. According to the victim, she and her daughter had just arrived at the Limestone County home when they heard an explosion, WZDX reported.

The woman said she saw Burns, her ex-boyfriend, from a window in her home, the television station reported.

The fire in the car also spread to the woman’s home and another residence, WHNT reported.

Investigators contacted the Limestone County fire marshal, who determined the fire to be arson, the television station reported.

Authorities then obtained a warrant to arrest Burns.
