Beachgoer finds 71 pounds of cocaine in South Florida

PALM BEACH, Fla. — A leisurely walk on the beach took quite a turn for one good Samaritan in Palm Beach, Florida.

Miami’s U.S. Border Patrol confirmed to WTSP that a beachgoer happened upon a bag containing 71 pounds of cocaine, valued at roughly $1 million.

The shocked beachcomber contacted local authorities who alerted border patrol agents, who took custody of the parcel that contained 25 individually-wrapped packages of cocaine, the TV station reported.

According to WVEC, the Palm Beach find follows news that the U.S. Coast Guard offloaded more than $411.3 million worth of illegal narcotics at Port Everglades, including 23,000 pounds of cocaine and 8,800 pounds of marijuana.
