Caretaker arrested after video shows him punching, slapping 88-year-old man

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A 19-year-old caretaker was arrested Wednesday after video showed him slapping, punching and yelling at an 88-year-old man, investigators said.

A home surveillance video shows Jonah Delgado physically abusing and berating the man he was in charge of taking care of, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Delgado was seen in the video putting the victim into a wheelchair and punching him in the face, head and stomach. It also showed him pushing the man onto the bed and punching him repeatedly in the stomach.

"The actions of this man are deplorable, unacceptable and disturbing," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "Delgado was trusted to take care of this man and to protect him. He not only broke this trust but put this man in direct danger with his actions."

Delgado was arrested and charged with abuse of an elderly or disabled adult and battery.
