Chris Rock pitched comedy show for Cardi B before rap success

Grammy winning and record breaking rapper Cardi B could’ve seen success in another field before making it big in the music industry.

In a recent interview on “The Tonight Show,” Chris Rock told Jimmy Fallon he tried to get Cardi B a comedy show before she released any music.

“My kids showed me this Cardi B girl, and she didn’t have a record out or anything. And I was like, 'OK, we should do a show," Rock said. “So I went -- me, Cardi B and her managerment -- to like, kind of get a show going, but it just never happened.”

Most people first saw Cardi B when she appeared on the VH1 reality television show “Love & Hip Hop: New York,” where she chronicled the pursuit of her musical dreams.

“She told me about her rap at the time, and I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, that’s good. Anyway, you’re a comedy star,’” Rock said.

Comparing her to comedians like Dave Chapelle and Bill Burr, Rock claimed Cardi B is “one of the funniest people in the world.”

Rock also revealed that he tried to get Wendy Williams a talk show on HBO before FOX picked up the idea, and he tried to get Leslie Jones an agent before “SNL” cast her.

“No one would listen to me,” he said.
