Coronavirus: Tyler Perry pays for seniors’ groceries at 73 stores across Atlanta, New Orleans

Media mogul Tyler Perry surprised seniors across two states Wednesday, paying the groceries bills for shoppers at 73 different stores.

A Kroger spokesman confirmed that Perry, 50 paid for the groceries of senior and higher-risk shoppers at 44 stores in the metro Atlanta area, WSB-TV reported. Perry also paid the bills for customers at 29 Winn-Dixie stores in his native New Orleans during the hour reserved for older customers during the coronavirus pandemic, People reported.

“We would like to join our customers in thanking Mr. Perry for his kindness and generosity during this unprecedented pandemic. It was truly a pleasure to see our customers fill with joy and gratitude as the news spread throughout 44 stores across metro Atlanta,” the Kroger spokesman told WSB.

On Sunday, Perry left a $500 tip for every out-of-work server at Houston’s restaurant in Atlanta, for a grand total of $21,000.

Perry is known for his charitable acts in the Atlanta area and around the world. Last year, he paid the funeral expenses for a murder victim, her daughter’s college expenses and made sure her family was not evicted from their home. Police said Tynesha Evans’ boyfriend killed her at a bank in North Fulton County in March 2019.

After Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas last year, Perry flew a private plane filled with supplies to the islands.

In 2018, Perry paid off $400,000 in Christmas layaways at two Atlanta-area Walmarts.
