Chappelle last hosted the show in 2016, the weekend after President Donald Trump was elected. This week he hosted as President-elect Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 election.

“I would implore everybody who’s celebrating today to remember, it’s good to be a humble winner,” Chappelle said. “Remember, when I was here four years ago, remember how bad that felt? Remember that half the country right now still feels that way. Please remember that.”

Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph reprised their roles as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for the show’s cold open. Rock band the Foo Fighters was the live musical guest.
