Decapitated, dismembered body discovered in New York apartment on Lower East Side, police say

NEW YORK — A man’s decapitated, dismembered body was found inside a Manhattan luxury condominium Tuesday afternoon, multiple media outlets reported.

According to the New York Police Department, officers responding to a welfare check request found part of the unidentified body in the Lower East Side apartment and an electric saw near the remains, WLNY reported.

According to The New York Times, investigators found only the man’s torso and one limb inside the residence.

It was not immediately clear if the dead man owned the condo, but a sister of the condo owner made the gruesome discovery around 3:30 p.m. She told investigators she went to check on her brother after not hearing from him for a day, the Times reported.

An NYPD spokesman said the medical examiner would determine the cause of death.
