Excellent: ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ drops first trailer

Bill Preston and Ted Logan are back. And dudes, even though they are middle-aged now, their return is simply excellent.

The trailer for “Bill & Ted Face the Music” dropped Tuesday, and the time-traveling buddies are at it again.

Keanu Reaves and Alex Winter reprise their roles in the third installment of the franchise, 31 years after “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and 29 years after its sequel, “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.” Both films became cult classics.

The film by Orion Pictures is scheduled for an Aug. 21 release, and the company said it plans to keep that opening date, Variety reported. After being closed for several months, theaters are beginning to reopen with social distancing rules in effect.

In the latest adventure, Reaves and Winter are warned by a visitor from the future that only their song can save humanity. The pair must travel to the future to retrieve the song, Variety reported.

“Bill, we spent our whole life trying to write the song that would unite the world,” Reaves says in the trailer. “Why can’t we just go to the future when we have written it?”

“Whoaaa, and take it from ourselves,” Winter says.

When Reaves wonders if that is stealing, Winter has the answer.

“How’s that stealing? We’re stealing from ourselves.”

Dean Parisot is the film’s director, while Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon -- who wrote the scripts for the first two movies -- handled the writing chores again, Variety reported.
