Feds charge Chicago man with carjacking, robbery, firearms offenses targeting Uber Eats, UPS drivers

CHICAGO — A Chicago man is facing multiple federal charges linked to a string of violent robberies targeting Uber Eats and at least one UPS driver.

Henyard, along with 25-year-old Darius Young and 23-year-old Xavier Tate, is accused of stealing items from a UPS truck on Aug. 21, while the driver made a 1:20 p.m. delivery, the U.S. Department of Justice confirmed in a news release.

According to the indictment, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in Chicago, the trio allegedly ordered the delivery driver at gunpoint to lie down on the ground while they stole boxes from the truck.

Both Young and Tate are facing robbery charges in connection to the incident, and Tate is also facing a weapons charge for allegedly possessing a semi-automatic weapon on the day of the robbery, the Sun-Times reported.

Meanwhile, Henyard is also accused of carjacking an Uber Eats driver on Aug. 14, another driver in Cicero a few days later and of unsuccessfully attempting to steal a Mercedes GLC at gunpoint in Oak Park in July, the DOJ stated.

According to prosecutors, Henyard could face up to 15 years in federal prison for each carjacking and attempted carjacking count, the Sun-Times reported.

“Our message to would-be carjackers is simple: Committing a senseless act of violence like carjacking will earn you a home in federal prison for a long time,” U.S. Attorney John R. Lausch Jr. Lausch stated.
