Florida man begging for food at KFC stabbed by customer, police say

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A Florida man who walked into a fast-food restaurant and asked a customer for food was beaten and stabbed by that person, authorities said.

Branden Dion Pearson, 27, is facing a charge of attempted murder, according to Broward County Sheriff’s Office’s online booking records.

Pearson is being held in the Broward County Jail, with bail set at $50,000, records show.

The victim, whose name was redacted from the arrest report, approached Pearson at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Fort Lauderdale at about noon on Wednesday, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

According to the report, Pearson refused and began insulting the man. The two men cursed and insulted one another and began throwing punches, the Sun-Sentinel reported. An employee managed to separate them, but the victim began throwing rocks he picked up in the parking lot at Pearson, according to the arrest report.

Pearson then walked outside and pushed the victim down. As the victim attempted to kick him, Pearson allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the man in the head, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Pearson went back inside the restaurant and sat down, waiting for the police to arrive, the newspaper reported.

The victim was taken to an area hospital.

According to the arrest report, Pearson told detectives he stabbed the man because he threw rocks at him.
