Jim Carrey will play Joe Biden on ‘SNL’

Jim Carrey Fast Facts

All righty, then: Jim Carrey will be playing former Vice President Joe Biden on the upcoming season of “Saturday Night Live.”

The 46th season of the show, which will premiere Oct. 3, likely will pit Carrey opposite Alec Baldwin, who returns as President Donald Trump, Rolling Stone reported. Former cast member Maya Rudolph will reprise her role as Sen. Kamala Harris, who is Biden’s running mate on the Democratic ticket for the 2020 election.

Lorne Michaels, the creator of “SNL,” confirmed that all three actors will be on the show during an interview with Vulture.

“There was some interest on (Carrey’s) part,” Michaels told Vulture. “And then we responded, obviously, positively. But it came down to discussions about what the take was. He and Colin Jost had a bunch of talks. He and I as well. He will give the part energy and strength, and … Hopefully it’s funny.”

During the previous season of “SNL,” three other actors portrayed Biden, who is challenging Trump for the presidency in the Nov. 3 election. Woody Harrelson played the former vice president three times, including during the season premiere in September 2019, Vulture reported. Jason Sudeikis, who played Biden on the show while Barack Obama was president, reprised the role in early February 2020. John Mulaney played Biden later that month.

Michaels added that Lauren Holt, Punkie Johnson, and Andrew Dismukes have been added to this season’s cast, Vulture reported.

“SNL” is planning on a “limited in-studio audience” at Rockefeller Center for this season, CNN reported. It will be the first time the show has aired from Studio 8H since March because of the coronavirus pandemic. During the spring, “SNL” closed out its 45th season with several at-home shows, Rolling Stone reported.
