Man allegedly carjacked vehicle, sped off with woman on hood in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — A man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly carjacked a vehicle in New Orleans and sped off with a woman on the hood.

New Orleans Police Department says they arrested Austin Levalley, 38, after he allegedly carjacked a vehicle around 12:15 p.m. Detectives saw a woman holding onto the hood of the car going through the area. They approached it and as they did, Levalley fled the area. The detective chased him and eventually caught him.

WWL-TV says a witness told them that the woman was screaming as the car drove off and Levalley was trying to throw her off of it.

The woman did not have any injuries, according to WWL-TV. The NOPD says officers found a firearm at the scene.

Levalley has been booked on recommended charges of armed robbery with a firearm, illegal carrying of a weapon, reckless operation, and resisting an officer. WWL-TV says Levalley was also wanted by investigators in connection with a carjacking on April 1.
