A 52-year-old man used the same numbers to win the state’s Pick 5 jackpot on April 13. It was the third time in 11 months that the Charles County man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, has won the promotion’s top prize, Maryland Lottery officials said in a news release on Wednesday.

The man placed a $1 dollar straight bet in the midday drawing, using the numbers 48548, lottery officials said.

Those were the same numbers the truck driver played when he hit the jackpot twice in the May 18, 2022, midday drawing to earn a $100,000 payday.

“It hit last year and it hit again,” the man told lottery officials. “My wife said, ‘Let’s play this number,’ and we keep winning with it.”

The winner said he believes that most lottery winners stop playing after their number is drawn, assuming that the winning combination will not come up again.

“Big Winner” has a different philosophy. He kept playing the same numbers after his double win in 2022 and will continue to do so.

“I play the lottery all the time. You never know,” he said in a statement. “You can’t win if you are not in it.”

The three-time winner said that he and his wife will probably use the money to take a “much-needed” vacation.

The chance of winning the $50,000 jackpot in the Pick 5 game is 1 in 100,000, according to the lottery’s website.
