Missouri dad gets lightning bolt haircut to match son’s scars

PACIFIC, Mo. — A Missouri man knew his young son was self-conscious about the scar on his skull, the result of reconstructive skull surgery. So he decided to cut a lightning bolt design into his hair to match his son’s scar.

Jonathan Tynes, of Pacific, went to a barber and had the design shaved into his head, KMOV reported. It was a gesture of support to his 5-year-old son, Hunter, who was born with a condition that caused the plates in his head to be fused together prematurely. The boy had reconstructive surgery when he was 21 months old, the television station reported.

“He had to be cut from ear to ear, opened up and his skull totally reshaped,” Tynes told KMOV.

The zigzag pattern on Hunter was made so his hair would grow over the scar, but the scar tissue on the side of the boy’s head were not covered.

“I said, ‘Your lightning bolts are really cool. I wish I had that.’ And he said, ‘Well, if you think they’re so cool, why don’t you get them?’” Tynes told the television station. “I said, ‘OK, then I will.”

Now, father and son have matching hairstyles.
