Ohio mail carrier accused of selling crack out of postal truck

ASHTABULA, Ohio — An Ohio mail carrier is accused of selling crack cocaine out of her mail truck on her route.

Darcy Ann Spangler, 52, of Ashtabula, was arrested Tuesday and charged with trafficking in drugs and aggravated trafficking in drugs, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.

The Crime Enforcement Agency of Ashtabula County, U.S. Postal Inspectors, the Office of Inspector General and the Painesville Office of the FBI served a search warrant at Spangler’s home, the Star Beacon of Ashtabula reported.

Authorities arrested Spangler after a three-month investigation, Crime Enforcement Agency commander Detective Greg Leonhard told the newspaper.

“This investigation involved transactions or purchases through undercover, confidential sources,” Leonhard told the Star Beacon. “On two out of three occasions the transactions occurred out of her postal vehicle.”

No additional drugs were found during the search of Spangler’s residence, but evidence of sales, including scales and packaging, were recovered inside the home, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
